Summary/Abstract: Königsberg University Professor Martynas Liudvikas Rėza (1776–1840) prepared the first Lithuanian song collection Dainos oder Litthauische Volkslieder (Königsberg, 1825). It included eighty-five Prussian Lithuanian songs in Lithuanian and in German, seven melodies, comments, and a research article by Rėza. This book is the most reviewed Lithuanian publication of the nineteenth century. The interest in the Lithuanian songs in Europe was promoted by the opinion of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
