Summary/Abstract: The monologue as an opening of inner thoughts gained its popularity in the drama field already in the second half of the 20th century. Influenced by such writers as M. Duras, P. Handke, B. Strauss, H. Müller, M. Koltès, it started to be more and more intensively used in contemporary drama, which practises inner monologue and the flow of un/consciousness. That’s why this article ‘The function of monologue in contemporary drama’ presents the types of monologues and analyses how their functions are changing.
