Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the introduction of bell ringing in the Medieval Balkans. The use of bells for religious purposes is a practice developed in Western Europe and which was later adopted by the Eastern Church. The paper sheds light on the adoption and the early stages of bell ringing among the Serbs and the Bulgarians by looking at evidence taken from written sources and archaeological remains.
