Summary/Abstract: The present paper is intended as a summary of known facts about Antoni Rarogiewicz, a woodcarver from Przeworsk. Supplemented with recently discovered information, the paper presents an outline of his career which may serve as a point of departurefor a more detailed investigation into the woodcarver’s life and work. Until now the basic information on Rarogiewicz could be found in “The Dictionary of Polish Artists”, which, in the light of documents surviving in the Archives of the Polish Province of the Observant Franciscans [Bernardines] in Cracow, requires amendments (mainly as far as the datesof the woodcarver’s engagement in the Observant Franciscan church in Przeworsk areconcerned). Apart from an analysis of Rarogiewicz’s work for the Observant Franciscansin Przeworsk, the paper puts together archival information on his social activities, such ashis contacts with the Przeworsk woodcarvers’ guild and his membership in the ‘Gwiazda’ association of craftsmen in Przeworsk. The biography of the artist and outline of his careerhave been supplemented by a presentation of a collection of his drawings recently donatedto the Museum in Przeworsk by his heir, Jan Burnat.
