Summary/Abstract: Alternative analysis has gained, since the mid-90s, a well-deserved place among the ways to avoid errors and failures in intelligence analysis. Refining by both the academics and practitioners of the alternative methods and techniques led to those instruments to be part of the so-called traditional analysis. With few exceptions, experts believe that only through a rigorous application of the alternative techniques the analyst can address the inherent challenges posed by the analytical process. Beyond the advantages of this type of analysis, there are some limits to its application. The analytical tools' use in the analyst's own benefit, in the benefit of the intelligence organization and the decision maker can turn these limits into strengths, so that the disseminated product contributes to strategic advantage.
