Summary/Abstract: The presence of samodiva as a personality in the folk word of mouth stories and legends has been examined in this paper. Leaning on that foun¬dation, and on the base of other scholarly texts have been stated some of the main characteristics of the two kinds of non-fairy prose. Different non-prosaic texts have been analyzed as well as other folk texts have been taken in mind in which the previously mentioned wood nymph acts in person. The paper attempts to clarify the main features of her image, ac¬cording to the folk beliefs. Finally, after examination of some folk beliefs and legends (where samodivas played certain role), it was ascertained that samodiva is never a leading character in them; her presence there is due to some characteristic features of her image. Namely because of these her features the bearers of the folk culture have easily distinguished the image of samodiva.
