Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes a hitherto unexplored matter – the changes in the culture of humor in Bulgaria in the period between the two world wars. The focus is on politically leftist satirical periodicals such as Cherven smjah, Zvanar, Zhupel and Dumping, as their model of partisan and ideologically driven satire became dominant and was later copied by the satirical press of their political adversaries such as the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union and the Democratic Alliance.
