Summary/Abstract: Before the Soviet Union dismantling, France, USA and NATO allies have seen USSR as the main threat against their security. Even under those circumstances, in agreement with its interests, France very clearly settled a political guideline to follow for then and for the next years with its European partners and together with USA peculiarly in 1960 under Charles De Gaulle presidency. In moments such Berlin crisis, Cuba missiles’ crisis or the discussions over 1980 „Euro-missiles”, the North-Atlantic Alliance was more united as ever. Still, few factors contributed to the shaping of France foreign policy. The first steps were done along Charles de Gaulle presidency, that basing on French nationalism in promoting its own interests opposed to USA influence enlargement in the world especially in Europe. The same political line was adopted by President Jacques Chirac. On the contrary, president Nicolas Sarkozy tried to rebuilt bilateral relations with USA understanding is better for France to renounce to its predecessors policy and to accept USA role as global leader. USA world’s superpower, after the end of the World War II, remained strongly caught into the European continent political and military life. In many Europeans regard, since 1990, Washington started to disengage from Europe, consequently, wishing to maintain its position as continent’s leader.
