Summary/Abstract: The article contains an analysis of the process of the formation of the Freies Deutschland Movement in the camps for prisoners of war in the Soviet Union during the Second World War. The first part of the paper presents the reasons of the creation of the Movement from the point of view of the USSR authorities and German communist emigrants staying in Soviet Union since 1939. The next part of the article shows the principles and the forms of agitation among prisoners of war in the years 1941-1942, as well as the reasons of the limited results of these activities. The main part of the text is dedicated to the circumstances of the creation of two organizations entering into the Movement – the National Committee Freies Deutschland and the Union of German Officers.
