Summary/Abstract: This text deals with the problem of visual literacy as an immanent multimodality of lifelong learning. The key issue, taken in the article, focuses on a narrow section of the subject matter of visual literacy, namely its importance in the process of individual and collective emancipation, implementation of the principles of social justice and respect for human rights. As an important condition for achieving that aim is the respect of validity claims in communication within the meaning of Jürgen Habermas.
