Summary/Abstract: Having published bestselling and widely translated tomes in Weimar Germany, Edwin E. Dwinger thoroughly tarnished his name by joining the NSDAP and the SS in the late 1930s. In spite of that, studying Dwinger’s work is extremely fruitful. As exemplified by the present essay, it provides insights into the influence of politics on literary criticism in Poland and Germany, the similarities and differences between Dwinger’s early works and Erich M. Remarque’s "All Quiet on the Western Front", and the anatomy of German anti-Liberalism
