Summary/Abstract: On 4 and 5 October 2010, Brussels hosted the 8th edition of the Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM 8), the agenda of which covered topics such as global economic governance, sustainable development, human rights, assistance in the event of natural disasters, non-proliferation, terrorism, regional issues and the future of ASEM - issues of common interest for Europe and Asia being incorporated into the general theme of this edition: "Quality of life, greater wealth and dignity for all citizens" as well as in the 'Brussels Declaration on More Efficient Global Governance'.The ASEM 8 Summit brings together 48 partners, the EU Member States, the European Commission, 16 Asian Nations, the ASEAN Secretariat and the three new ASEM-official partners - the Russian Federation, Australia and New Zealand.The works of the ASEM 8 Summit were led by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy who, at the end of the meeting, stated in a press conference, "This process must take into account the realities of the current world - the changes that are taking place and the solid growth of emerging economies and emerging economies. "The next ASEM Summit will take place in the Laos capital, Vientiane, in October 2012.
