Curriculum Perception in Turkey

Summary/Abstract: The perception towards curriculums implemented in primary schools in Turkey was investigated in this study. The perception of curriculum means the learning approach and systematic structure. Since the proclamation of the Republic in 1923, primary school curriculums have been designed and implemented across the country in the years of 1924, 1926, 1936, 1948, 1968, 1997, and 2005. The study is limited to the curriculums associated to these years. The study was conducted with a literature review and interpreted with obtained findings. As a result of the study, it was determined that many learning approaches have been tested in primary school curriculums in Turkey since 1923 and ensuring a systematic structure in terms of curriculum components has taken a considerably long time. With regards to this, it has been recommended that attempts at constantly testing new approaches in primary schools should be ceased and a systematic structure fit for the structure of the country is developed.
