Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the main events of the dualist period and of the First World War. The first pages present the situation of the Romanians in Austria-Hungary and the scepticism of the leaders of the Romanian nation in the context of the annexation of Transylvania by Hungary and the signing of the Treaty of Alliance with the Central Powers. The hope of achieving the national ideal arose when Romania signed the Treaty of Alliance with the Entente Powers and entered the war against Austria- Hungary. For the first time in history, it was signed in a treaty that Transylvania and Bucovina belong to Romania. We believe that the achievement of the Great Union in 1918 was the result of many favourable events, which were properly connected. This, in our opinion, represented a historical miracle, perhaps even a divine intervention on the events. In the last part of the paper were presented only the main moments that led to the unification of Basarabia, Bucovina and Transylvania with Romania. At the end of the paper, we observed the division of the Romanian society of nowadays and the need of some political personalities to unify and to conduct the Romanian society towards the union of the Republic of Moldova with Romania.
