Summary/Abstract: Lajos Ordass (Wolf) was born on 6 February, 1901 in Torzsa, a village in Bácska, Vajdaság. He was educated in his birth village, and later in Verbász and Bonyhád. After graduating at the Academy of Theology in Budapest in 1924, he was consecrated by the bishop of the Evangelical church, dr Sándor Raffay. He performed clerical duties in Harta, Mezőberény, Soltvadkert. He first served as pastor in Cegléd from 1931 to 1941 and later in Kelenföld, Budapest. His congregation worked self-sacfrifyingly during the Second World War. He became bishop in 1945 and served till 1950, when the communist regime under false accusations imprisoned him in Szeged and Vác. He became bishop again in 1956, but following the revolution, he suffered the consequences of the retaliations. He spent the rest of his life away from the public, mainly working on literary, sacral and etnographic texts. He was rehabilitated by the state in 1990 and by the Evangelical church in 1995.
