Summary/Abstract: Through this text we attempt to re-discuss and, at the same time, to close what was considered to be, within the Romanian historiography, the issue of the “mysterious Lorellino” – the pseudonym used by the person who revealed the plagiarism committed by Constantin Hamangiu in 1897. Despite various clues and even clear evidences and literary mentions which, strangely enough, were not taken into consideration by the historians dealing with Hamangiu’s biography and works, the identity of Lorellino remained undisclosed. Nevertheless, the closing of the Lorellino’s identity issue opens other interesting investigation leads which could be explored within a future extensive research.
