Summary/Abstract: Undoubtedly, Michael Kogălniceanu is one of the most known historian, cultural and political personality of Romania in the nineteenth century. His political career, marked by the commencement of a revolutionary wave that swept through Europe in 1848, including Romanian Principalities, continued long time after, with more and more intensity during the struggle for national unity, construction and strengthening of the modern Romanian state, up to the last decade of the same century. In this paper, the author offers some new biographical informations, beside those already known, regarding to the beginning of his higher job in public services, as follows: the first, as a Director of the Public Works Department (or Ministry) of Moldavian Government (1849−1850), and the second, as a Director of Internal Department of the same Government (1851−1852), during Grigore Alexandru Ghica reign (1849−1856). All informations were found and gathered in some collections of documents from the National Archives in Iaşi branch, and, together with the other historical sources, are completing, in posterity, the image of a proteic personality, who is considered almost unanimously, the real architect of modern Romania.
