Summary/Abstract: I was extremely privileged to study with Chuck at UCLA during the blossoming of studies of multimodal and embodied interaction, and the notion of co-operative action. My interest in the embodied actions of hearers drew me to UCLA to study with Chuck. Between Chuck and Manny Schegloff , who were co-chairs of my dissertation, I learned how to collect, transcribe, analyze and present situated social interaction as well as how to see and think about them from new critical perspectives. I do not know how I can express my gratitude for immense inspiration, countless guidance, and continued support that Chuck has provided since 2001 when I started my Ph.D. at UCLA.
