Summary/Abstract: In 1834, one of the most famous revolutionaries of the 19th century, Giuseppe Mazzini, organized and even took part, till one point, in an armed campaign against the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Sardinia. This was the expedition in Savoy, a region close to the border of the Kingdom of Sardinia with France and Switzerland, the latter state being, at the time, a fief of exiled revolutionaries from all over Europe. The coordinates of the expedition were intimately linked to the aspirations of Giuseppe Mazzini. He was a promoter of the principle of nationalities, so one of the goals of the insurrectional initiative was to take a first step towards the territorial unification of the Italian nation by replacing an undecided king, Carlo Alberto de Savoia, with a president determined to start a national unification process. Some details of this attempt were revealed by the press from the Romanian Principalities through a series of articles published by the newspaper “Albina Românească” from Iași. In eight numbers, from February till April 1834, the gazette from the capital of Moldova provided information about the expedition organizer, Giuseppe Mazzini, and his organization, “Young Italy”, about the military leader, General Girolamo Ramorino, about the European revolutionaries involved, about the attitude of the Swiss authorities and on the European impact of this episode. Although the expedition ended in failure, it was the first major action of Giuseppe Mazzini.
