Summary/Abstract: Vasily Aleksandrovich Bulkin had for many years been engaged in the study of “paired” — or, as he also called them, “doublet” — hydronyms in the territory of Belarus. His archive has preserved the results of this work, mainly in the form of drawn by him numerous maps of the distribution of these river names. What is offered here to the readers’ attention, is the text of his presentation given twenty-five years ago in Minsk at a conference dedicated to the memory of repressed archaeologists (Bulkin 1993). This material gives an opportunity to look into the creative laboratory of the researcher, to hear his own description of the material that he had worked with. The text was prepared for publication by Tatjana N. Jackson, who also provided it with the bibliography, notes and illustrative material from the archive of Vasily Bulkin.
