Social and aesthetic aspect of art practices in public space in Poland and Europe.

A close look to some examples

Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to describe the reception of artistic activities in a public space, their social determinants, and their role in shaping the aesthetic expression of space, mainlyurban. The paper presents selected examples of art projects (i.e. Joanna Rajkowska’s project Dotleniacz) and examples of cultural policy/strategies have been led by a local authority asa collaboration with artists, to create a larger projects/art review (Sculpture Park on Bródno,Skulpture Projekte). Compared examples from Poland and Western Europe are aimed atidentifying factors, that determine the nature of the artistic activity, and their close link witha historical and economic conditions.
