Summary/Abstract: The text offers a sociological view of inter-religious relations in a multireligious society. Confessional imperialism is replaced by conceptual pluralism. This calls for legitimate difference in place of uniformity. This will contribute to the equal representation of the traditions of others within "our" confessional community. Sociological models of relations between religions and confessions is presented in the text through the three models of a) exclusivism, b) inclusion, and c) pluralism. Another sociological element that is essential for co-existence and tolerance is also indicated. In ethnically and confessionally heterogeneous societies, the issue of ethnic and confessional tolerance is very significant. Being tolerant to other cultures, religions and so on means being civilized. Attitudes towards the other, towards diversity, are also essential to coexistence. It is necessary to know how to conduct dialogue, to cooperate and to learn from those who are other, different. Dialogue is an exceptionallyimportant valueat the threshold of the 21sf century. The author advocates a dialogical approach to other religions, and pluralism that respects the integrity of different religious traditions. Trust is also necessary for dialogue (and without it there is no reconciliation). Finally, the author indicates the problems of the attitude of the "majority" towards the "minority" confessional community as an expression of religious (in)tolerance.
