Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present article is to analyze the humor in Woody Allen’sThe Whore of Mensa from both a literary and linguistic perspective. The analysis putsinto contrast the richness of the literary interpretation of humor – with its numerousquips and subtle references to high-end literature – and the exaggeratingly repetitioussimplicity of the linguistic humorous structure. Woody Allen manages to structure theentirety of his text so as to make it resemble a joke, a feat that, according to theprevailing humor theories, shouldn’t be possible.
