Summary/Abstract: The study deals with common aspects of 19th century birth beliefs and nowadays traditional thinking. Many magic practices are still to be found in various regions of Moldavia or other Romanian-inhabited territories. Simeon Florea Marian was the first to place them in an anthology, as part of the trilogy of life and his work gives us the possibility to analyze the dynamics of archaic living. We focus on the preliminary part of the birth practices and ritual and also on the immediate moment of birth, as a period of uncertainty, fear and hope. The 19th century folklorist used village references to sustain his investigation and we maintained this work method as an argument of continuity, both in the scientific field, and in the popular beliefs. Recent materials used here to prove the spiritual constant show similarities up to identity in the traditional way of experiencing life.
