Media freedom and pluralism in the European Union media policy

Summary/Abstract: The principle of subsidiarity in the EU refers to the principle that the Member States define the ways to protect media freedom and pluralism. However, the European Union has taken important initiatives to promote freedom and pluralism of the media and the reduction of market concentration. In that regard, different approaches of the European Parliament and the Commission can be sometimes observed. This article presents the most important documents and analyzes the current actions in that particular area of EU media policy.
