Summary/Abstract: The societies within south-eastern Europe can be said to have been subject to a regime of change and continuity, just as any other societies have been. The dialectic of change and continuity is present in any society and forms the central driving motor of history. Under capitalism, the motor of history, of change and continuity, is driven forwards, backwards or stalled by the interplay (displaying compatibility and contradiction) between the drive to accumulate capital and the battle between the two primary social classes in society: namely, capital and labour.
