Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, hermeneutic questions have been intensively discussed among Orthodox theologians. On the one hand, there is an effort to identify an orthodox profile of biblical exegesis. On the other hand, questions are asked about the legitimacy of historical critical exegesis for orthodox theology. In this study, I first analyze the allegations that were brought to the historical-critical exegesis, and I also ask about their relevance today. Afterwards, I name four arguments that legitimize the historico-critical approach to the biblical text from an orthodox perspective.
