Summary/Abstract: Despite the effort of our predecessors, today’s art historians still need to do a lot of work regarding older art, not only in the field of theoretical generalisations and contemporary evaluations, but also in gathering and interpreting factual material, without which generalisations cannot be reliable. Tõnis Grenzstein’s life and work confirm this eloquently.
