Summary/Abstract: The article describes the Polish-Ukrainian confl ict of memory over the Volhynia and Galician crime of 1943−1945. It shows that, in recent years, the dispute has become more and more politicised, affecting political relations between Poland and Ukraine. The Ukrainian historical laws adopted in 2015 and the amendment to the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance of January 2018, which is far from good legislation, signifi cantly affected the relations. In the author’s opinion, Ukrainian and Polish politicians do not appreciate the fact that due to the scale of the crimes committed and the emotions behind them, the Volhynian events have a huge energy potential capable of affecting subsequent generations. Therefore, they should seriously consider the scenario that, in the coming years, the deep historical dispute will lead to a slow but steady deterioration of relations between Poland and Ukraine.
