Summary/Abstract: The data that can be gained from the cadastral surveys are among the main sources of the history of economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. &e most current research results claim that detailed cadastral surveys had not been completed in Transylvania during the dual monarchy. The land-consolidation laws (proportioning and commassation) served as the preconditions of the detailed cadastral surveys in Székelyföld (Székely Land). &e Cadastral Directorate of Kolozsvár (Cluj) completed the land-tax regulations, as well as the preparation of the new taxing activities regarding the ongoing land redefinitions in the area of Transylvania from 1875 onwards. &e tasks completed and the ones taken over by the treasury were regarded as part of the national cadastral survey both by the contemporaries (the engineers of the Cadastral Directorate of Kolozsvár, 1894) and by later historical studies (130.2 square miles).
