Summary/Abstract: Resultative constructions are predicate constructions in which the sentence-final predicate denotes a change in state or location as a direct result or consequence of the action of the matrix verb. There are structures, both in English and Romanian, which inherit the surface word order of these constructions but are not true resultatives. In this paper we discuss why false resultatives are not resultatives.
