Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on a rare iconographic type of Pilate’s Escort from the scene of the Road to Calvary in the nave of St George’s Church in Veliko Tarnovo. It highlights some peculiarities of the image by comparing it to a number of examples from the central region of the Balkans dating to the 15th–17th centuries. The study also includes several iconographic types of the scene that were used by icon painters at the end of the 16th and in the beginning of the 17th centuries.
