Summary/Abstract: This study is carried out with the aim of identifying the experiences and problems of the Syrian elderly participating in the migration process both on the migration path and on the target place. For this purpose, it is aimed to examine the expectations, needs, and problems of elderly emigrants by using descriptive analysis method from the secondary sources and from the interviews in terms of Syrian emigrants. In this study the migration and age-related social networks are examined within the framework of the notions; active ageing and on-site ageing. In-depth interviews with 7 Syrians residing in Sakarya and having household members aged 60 or older are carried out and the results are categorized according to three analysis levels (psychological factors, factors affecting daily practices and social networking factors). These categories are also defined as the obstacles to active ageing at the same time. According to the brief conclusions of the study, the elderly Syrians in Turkey represent twice the marginalized groups due to both reasons of immigration and the characteristics of the migration process and afterwards; and the problems experienced are sharper than the obstacles based on economic and language-related reasons. The study examines these obstacles and the challenges of the process within the context of active ageing.
