Summary/Abstract: The paper explores the relationship of Sava Branković, Romanian bishop of Transylvania (died in 1683) to the Reformation. Through the examination of the episcopal career of Branković, the author aims to demonstrate that central authority in Transylvania did not compel the Romanians to adopt the Reformed faith. Despite the fact that Greek Orthodoxy was not regarded as a recepta religio in Transylvania, no trace of religious persecution was be found. What was launched against Branković was not a show trial; the accusations that led to his deposition from the episcopal office in 1680 were real ones.
