Summary/Abstract: The article provides an analysis of the various functions of the suffix -ek in minor place names (names of unsettled geographical objects) from the territory of Bohemia. The individual types of formations are analysed, interpreted, and illustrated by typical examples. The most important conclusion concerns the function of this suffix in minor place names derived from common nouns; this function is not always diminutive, as it has been stated up to now. In many names derived from common nouns, the suffix -ek expresses the relative position of the named object or certain circumstances connected with it. The article also expands the knowledge of names derived from proper names.
