Economic order policies and fiscal rules in Federal Republic of Germany

Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the general concepts of economic order policies (Ordnungspolitik) and their application, as exemplified by the rules used in German economic policy. The author's premise is that only an economic order policy can solve urgent problems of European public finance sectors resulting from the long term discretionary policy. Firstly, the key objectives of the policy of economic order are introduced, then the fiscal rules applied in Germany are discussed, and are subsequently subjected to critical analysis from the perspective of the ordoliberal theory of economic order.
