Summary/Abstract: Madness is generally assimilated to mental disorders. It is a disease that alters the life of the person who suffers from it. In the Ivorian Jean-Marie Adiaffi’s poetry, this society’s view on insanity becomes meaningless, since it enables us to discover another hidden dimension, that stems from this derogatory world to a much ameliorative one. Within a discursive paradigm, madness goes beyond a simple static structure because it generates significance – a unified semantics. Thus, the poet presents it to the reader or analyst by highlighting his commitment to promote the humanistic virtues. Castigating violence and iniquity, the poet glorifies the truth with a heightened determination, considering sex as a shield or a weapon, celebrating love in all its fullness, and advocating unlimited freedom for all citizens. All these above-mentioned semantic investments are built upon a theme – an abstract concept – which extends indefinitely into a figurative one – a perceptible reality –rich, varied and expressed in a laudatory manner, disproportionately or, we might as well say, to madness and beyond.
