Summary/Abstract: The problem of drug use, and especially drug addiction, is gradually becoming a major concern of many specialized intervention areas (clinics, counseling centers, therapy and detoxification etc.), as well as a field of great interest and the involvement of social work, especially in interdisciplinary teams (consisting of doctors, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, spiritual assistants etc.). With the intent to meet practical social workers, our approach – in a psychopathological and clinical vision - attempts to present some common classes of psychoactive substances used, the effects, psychosocial consequences and their therapy, important dates to be known in a prophylactic perspective as well as in social practice.
