Summary/Abstract: In Romania, homeschooling became widely known in September 2016, with the media coverage of two local artists who publicly declared they would withdraw their daughter from public school and enroll her in the homeschooling system. While homeschooling is not clearly regulated in the Romanian legislation, and there are no relevant statistics on the number of practitioners, there are indicators that it has been constantly growing since 2001. The main controversy is linked to the problem of socialization, homeschooled children being thought to be inadequately developed socially because of possible isolation. This research aims to explore to which extent the level of development of the social abilities of homeschooled children can be considered comparable to the one of children in the traditional school in the Romanian context.
