Summary/Abstract: The question of compatibility of Islam and Democracy is more current today than than ever. This problem is not connected only with the current revolutions in Arab countries, and the process of democratic transition in in Africa and the Middle East. It's also directly connected with the issue of multiculturalism and the debate over civil rights of Muslim immigration in developed Western democracies. In this paper author analyze the problem of relations between Islam and democracy through the prism of the two most common academic approach. The first approach is based on the thesis of the organic unity of the Islamic religion and politics, and focuses exclusively on the area of religion and dogma. The second approach analyzes the political praxis of Islamic states in the past hundred years. The paper analyzes the arguments of both discourse. Author makes effort to show the diversity of arguments and their mutual contradiction within each of these discourses, and tries to present certain conclusions based on consideration of the arguments "for" and "against" Democracy in contemporary Islam...
