Summary/Abstract: Entering adulthood is becoming more and more of a challenge, both for young people themselves and for social researchers. This fundamental social act is seen in the form of unconnected passages and transitions. What can we say about young adults in our country? Are Polish families affected by the ‘crowded nest’ syndrome, what is the socio-demographic profile of nesters (age, gender, education and financial situation, etc.), and what are the key reasons for nesting? General observation of the attitudes among young people in Poland and studies quoted in the paper indicates that the changes in behaviour among young individuals entering adulthood and in families as such are very far-reaching. There is a clear dependence between the independence status of young adults and characteristics such as stage of education, level of income, and as well as one’s system of values.
