Summary/Abstract: Russia in the Reign of Alexei Mikhailovich by Grigoriy Karpovich Kotoshikhin (ca.1630–1667) is one of the most important historical sources providing insight into thesocial and political shape of Russia in the XVIIth Century. Its English translation byBenjamin Phillip Uroff, made in 1970 to be published posthumously in 2014, containssome fascinating mistakes reflecting the vast cultural and mental differencesbetween Russia around 1650 and contemporary English-speaking world.
