Ancient mosaic techniques and materials. Differences in terminology and possible solutions

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with several mosaic techniques used in Roman and Late Antique mosaic art in Bulgaria. Each technique is presented with short historical background and its development stages illustrated by famous examples of the Greek and Roman world aswell as the ones from Bulgarian provinces of the Roman empire. The main aim of the paper is tocontribute to unifi cation of the specifi c terminology used in scientific researches of mosaic art in Bulgaria according to the established scientific practices in this field.
