Summary/Abstract: This article proposes the discursive analysis of the lexical and semantic scope of a few words which designate, in a corpus of narratives of Orthodox Christian spirituality both written in and translated into French, the spiritual fathers of great renown, whose exceptional being is presented as a model to follow for the readers who wish to lead a genuinely Christian life. We shall explore the discursive mode in which this being is narratively built by the setting of all the facts and gestures that represent their acting of monks, generally designated by the “generic” phrase labeurs ascétiques. Our corpus consists of four narratives of this genre, relevant to what we define as a Francophone literature of Christian spirituality.
