Innovation in the Development of Regions and Cities - Comparable Analysis

Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a general overview of the importance of innovation in the development of regions and cities. Some of the specific questions answered in this paper include:- What are the specific regional strategies that influence the relocation of industries, the building of know-how, the emergence of innovative companies and partnership creation?- How does innovation influence the development of regions with high-tech sectors?The final section of the paper presents a comparative analysis of three cities (regions) and their efforts to create new innovative sectors, to aid research and development organizations and support industries based on knowledge. It is demonstrated in the paper that the regional policy implemented in Austin (USA), Brno (Czech Republic) and Lodz (Poland) have been and will continue to be effective. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the adopted regional innovation strategies, and give examples of economic determinants that stimulate the growth of cities through the cities of Austin, Lodz and Brno.
