Summary/Abstract: The article presents one type of Czech verification sentences (sentences confirming or denying a statement) based on the syntactic connection of affirmative and negative forms of one proposition: Že bych se moc těšil na Ježíška, to se moc netěším. Utterances of this specific type are described in comparison with negative sentences formed by the expression It is not true that… Attention is paid to both formal properties of the analysed utterance type (grammatical categories, intonation, the use of the anaphoric pronominal word, sentence order, reduction possibilities, punctuation), as well as its semantic aspects and use in speech. The analysed constructions are also related to other Czech syntactic constructions actualizing the utterance topic. The paper is based on language data extracted from the Czech National Corpus SYN.
