Summary/Abstract: Archaeological excavations on the fortifications of Banganarti (site 1), conducted in 2007, cleared sectors IV and VII of the nine sectors which were distinguished along the curtain wall. Stratigraphic test trenches (11) were dug to bedrock (from 1.30 to 4.30 m deep, recording also layers preceding the construction of the defenses) also in sectors IV, VI, VII and VIII. A new fortified gate was discovered (in the north, while the other gates (western and southern) were re-examined. Construction phases were investigated, leading to the identification of two major building phases: the construction of the curtain wall and the surrounding buildings, and a phase of repairs to selected parts of the wall, towers and gates. Samples were taken for radiocarbon dating.
