Summary/Abstract: Research on tombstones in the territory of Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia is many-sided, raise and present important issues and comment on different concepts of the origin, functions, symbolism and on the whole the point of the existence of the tombstones. We think that the most acceptable is the theory about the connection of the stone monuments with the Bosnian Church and the influence of the Bogomil Movement. Their appearance and location are connected with the heresy and more to the point with its feudal-state manifestations during this period and in this territory. A part of the images on the tombstones is connected with knighthood, with certain knight rituals and personal possessions. Such a statement may be strange and illogical if we do not bear in mind the fact that, actually, the Bogomils disseminating their principles throughout the whole of Western Europe, were quite familiar with knighthood and some of them were initiated into it. Having this in mind we can firmly state that the knight structure was not unfamiliar in the Balkans and in the Bogomil Bosnia.
