Summary/Abstract: Seventy-three years ago, Korea gained independence from Japanese colonial rule in 1945 and normalized its diplomatic relations with Japan fifty-two years ago in 1965. Since restoring diplomatic ties, the two countries have experienced conflicts surrounding historical issues and efforts have been made to resolve them. Nevertheless, disparity in recognizing such historical issues has instead grown between Korea and Japan.
