Summary/Abstract: The main goal of this article is to present the results of a pilot study conducted at the Faculty of Management of the University of Lodz in the period September – October 2017. The surveyed pilot group were students of the business analyst who took up employment in a family business. In the study were analyzed both relations between the employed family members who are in direct business dependency and employees from outside the family were analyzed. The survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire. The study focused on a psychological contract between participants of family enterprises. Among other things, aspects such as expectations of related and unrelated employees towards the owner, differences in treatment of related and unrelated employees in many respects and readiness to verbalise the psychological contract were taken into account. In order to embed the studied dependencies in the theory of organization and management, a definitive approach to the psychological contract and family businesses was presented. The additional objective of the study is to indicate the essence of the psychological contract in the management process, taking into account the specificity of family businesses. The presented in this article results of conducted study showing the specificity of the occurrence of a psychological contract and the functioning of employees in family businesses, can be a useful hint, helping to shape effective relations between employees and business owners. Effective management of a psychological contract can affect the effectiveness of the entire company management processed.
